2nd Friday Art Walk - The Eternal Series: Photographs of Sonic Youth
"This portfolio represents an ongoing interest in rock documentary photography, especially the possibilities of visually documenting sound - having one artistic medium capture another. The images included here seek to capture the experience of music, to step beyond the forms of celebrity portraiture that predominate music photography and return to the idea of capturing music as it is heard and performed. This sequence on Sonic Youth was taken at a concert at the National in Richmond, Virginia, July 8, 2009, during the tour for their album The Eternal (2009)." - Christopher J. Lee

2nd Friday Art Walk - Everyone is a Comedian
A look into the life of a comedian and how you can be one too - after all, are we all not funny at some time, some place in our lives? At least that is what we tell ourselves. Come along on a ride with Michelle Maclay, comedian and nap taker, as she gives you a glimpse into the life of a comedian. A mixture of comedy stand up, improv, and a little bit of what she likes to call, "by the seat of her pants!"

2nd Friday Art Walk
Our artist for February's 2nd Friday Art Walk (Feb. 12th) is Adrienne Byrd, who presents a show entitled "bunnies in your bonnet." There'll be mostly paintings, some mixed media, some merch for sale (cards, totebags, t-shirts), and more!
Of the show she says: "everyone loves bunnies, right? these bunnies love the beehive. nobody likes bees in their bonnets. i haven't drawn a bunny with a beehive yet. bunnies in crowds...and otherwise happened somewhat by accident and are taking over the salon for the month of love."
You can see more at the bunnies in crowds ... and otherwise Facebook page.

2nd Friday Art Walk
All January long we'll have photography and framing by Judy Woodall, a self-taught photographer/musician, and an admirer of anything, animal, person, place or object that grabs her eye, ear, mind or heart and says, "WHOA!!, slow down, look, and listen." This show's photographs were taken using two cameras simultaneously - a digital point & shoot aimed through the viewfinder of a 1950's Kodak Dualflex. Enjoy the "analog" character of the old lens, dust, scratches and all.

The Beehive Art Challenge: Mohawks and/or Mullets
From Bowie to Bolton: the Mullet crossed the seas of fashion history from gender-bending rock 'n' rollers to blue collars. From Mohicans to Maddox: the Mohawk is a signature style of rebels and misfits.
Talk about iconic styles & co-existing opposites. Both the Mullet and the Mohawk began making their appearance in popular culture as far back as the 1960's - however, the styles became fashion trends in the 1980's and still exist today.
The staff at the Beehive salon in Carrboro loves both styles so much we would like to see them immortalized in art. We are looking for the best artistic representation of Mohawks and/or Mullets.
THE CHALLENGE Any medium, any style, any size (well, it has to fit inside the Beehive Salon). All ages are encouraged to participate. The top 7 winners will have their art work displayed inside the Beehive Salon for the month of August and be part of the 2nd Friday art walk on August 14th.
THE PRIZES 1st place: $100.00 gift certificate to the Beehive alon 2nd place: 75.00 gift certificate to the Beehive salon 3rd place: 50.00 gift certificate to the Beehive salon 4th - 7th places will receive a gift package

Employee Product Pick! Diane Koistinen - Heat Silk Lotion:
If you have had me do your hair then chances are I have used this product on you. It is used on the hair before heat. It protects the hair from the heat of the dryer while at the same time repairing the hair with silk proteins. I recommend this product for everyone who uses a dryer or iron. It is inexpensive and it REALLY works.
